PABLO GRISS: (b. 1971 Caracas, Venezuela) graduated from Columbia University, School of Visual Arts (1996) in New York, where he lived and worked until 1998.  He currently lives and works in Berlin, Germany.

Griss has participated in several group and solo exhibitions in U.S.A, Europe, and Latin America. In 2013 his series Intervention was first introduced during ArtBo ’13 sharing exhibiting space with well known Neo Geo artist Peter Halley; during this art fair, his work was featured as the cover for the digital version of Art in America Magazine. In 2014 his work was included in ‘100 Painters of Tomorrow’ authored by Kurt Beers and published by Thames & Hudson.

Griss deliberately challenges viewers’ perceptions and explores the nature of reality, his artworks surpass the constraints imposed by language, serving as profound pathways to a deeper understanding that transcends all communicative barriers. His geometric abstraction incorporates three key elements: He builds upon his deconstructive approach to the color research initiated by  Venezuelan kinetic artists,  moving beyond surface-level visual effects. Additionally, Griss is heavily influenced by the painterly techniques of geometric masters such as Frank Stella and Peter Halley. By combining these influences, Griss translates his understanding into a unique perspective fueled by his fascination with the electromagnetic principles governing color interactions and their possibilities within his artwork.

In his most recent investigations, Griss explores Diamagnetism, a form of magnetism where a material is weakly repelled by a magnetic field, leading to changes in its color. The interplay between light and magnetic fields alters how specific wavelengths are absorbed and reflected, resulting in shifts in perceived color. Inspired by the color inquiries of Josef Albers, Griss ventures into new and unfamiliar territories, creating artwork that delves into the borderlands of human consciousness. His geometric paintings create precise yet ambiguous spaces.

Griss fully immerses himself in his research, approaching it with the precision of a scientist or mathematician. He carefully considers every detail, from selecting the ideal linen to carefully mixing and applying multiple layers of paint. Mathematics intertwines with poetry and magic in his studio.
